In January 2004 the General Purpose Canine Team was contacted to assist in the search for two offenders. The two people failed to stop their vehicle when requested to do so by police, eventually losing control of the vehicle and coming to rest on a grassed embankment. The two people left the vehicle and ran into the surrounding bushland.
Police Dog Raven was deployed off-lead in a bush search capacity and within a few minutes had located and retrieved a boot later confirmed as belonging to one of the offenders.
About five minutes later Police Dog Raven located and apprehended one of the offenders, who was escorted out of the area and placed in custody.
Police Dog Raven was deployed again and about 30 minutes later located and apprehended the second offender about 400 metres from the first offender.
The second offender was also escorted out of the area and placed in custody.
Police Dog Raven was deployed for a period of about 40 minutes, during which time both offenders were located and arrested.
It is a credit to both the handler and Police Dog Raven that the canine kept focused and continued to search during the entire period.
The two offenders were later charged with various traffic and warrant related matters.
